What is dental implant treatment? What are dental implants?

Dental implants are basically artificial teeth replacements. They are recommended for those missing single or multiple teeth for their cost-effectiveness, durability, and functionality.

In this treatment, the missing teeth are replaced with a screwlike titanium implant. This implant serves as root for the prosthetic teeth that is later applied. Implants imitate natural teeth in function and appearance.

Why should I prefer dental implant treatment?

There are several reasons to prefer dental implant treatment. The titanium implants integrate well with the bone, which allows them to be not only a healthy option, but a sustainable and durable one too. Once the implant treatment is over, the patient may comfortably go back to their ordinary lives. Today, dental implant treatments have a success rate of 98%.

How is the pre-treatment phase?

Before starting out with the treatment, the patient goes through tomography and X-ray. Using the results of these imagings, our dentists determine the right sort of treatment for the patient. In some cases, the dentist may decide on preliminary treatments such as bone grafting.

What is bone grafting?

In some cases, the jawbone of the patient may not be suitable for implants. In these cases, the damaged bone is repaired through bone grafting.

How is dental implant treatment performed? How long does it take?

At the start of the treatment, local anesthesia is used on the patient. Then, the implant is implanted into the pre-determined spot and the abutment is added on top of the implant. Finally, the implant is closed up with sutures. This surgery takes approximately 10 to 20 minutes.

Healing process begins and the implant’s integration with the bone is checked regularly. The sutures are removed after one or two weeks. The patient initially receives a temporary crown, but later the permanent one is planted.

How is the post-treatment process? What are the dos and don’ts for the patient?

After the tooth is replaced, the patient can comfortably move on with their lives without any problems. Dental hygiene shouldn’t be neglected, and the implant should be regularly cleaned. Dental flosses are widely used for dental hygiene. For a more effective solution, however, the teeth should be treated with a water flosser. This technique is provided to you by expert dentists in our clinic.

What are the types of dental implants?

There are different types of dental implant depending on the patient’s demands and their situation:

  1. Single-unit dental implant

This type of treatment deals with the replacement of a single tooth with an implant. The implant supports the crown, which is designed uniquely for the patient. The main aim in this type of treatment is to create a symmetric and aesthetic-looking artificial tooth.

  1. Multiple teeth replacement

Unlike single-unit dental implant treatment, this treatment includes the replacement of multiple teeth. Prosthetic bridges are planted between the implants, which allows the replacement of multiple teeth with the use of fewer implants. Therefore, multiple teeth replacement is a cost-effective option.

  1. All-on-four treatment

All-on-four treatment is a treatment where four implants are implanted to support a full upper or lower jaw dental prosthesis. This treatment is performed when the patient’s condition renders them unsuitable for an all-on-six treatment. The four implants form a strong and stable enough foundation upon which the dentures are applied. These four implants may be used for 15 to 20 years.

  1. All-on-six tedavisi

All-on-six technique is the main treatment for the replacement of a full set of teeth. This technique includes the implementation of two more implants than the all-on-four technique, which makes it stronger and more durable. All-on-six treatment is recommended by the dentist unless the bone structure makes it impossible, in which case the all-on-four treatment may be performed. The dentures applied with the all-on-six treatment are usually durable for more than 20 years.

  1. Emergency dental implants

Emergency implants are implants performed in an emergency case of tooth break, infection, or a similar situation. The implant is performed without losing any more time and allows the preservation of the jawbone and gingival tissues. Thanks to emergency dental implant treatments, the patient could return to their lives without going through long phases of recovery.
